Gearing up for Summer

Gearing up for Summer

June 12, 2023

Camps with Meaning is gearing up for another great year of summer programming for school-aged children and adults with disabilities.

Scott Warkentin, a member of this year’s Leadership Team, will be working as the Inclusion Coordinator at Camp Koinonia. Scott attends Home Street Mennonite Church. His passion for camp has deep roots. His father, Curt Warkentin, worked as a camp counselor and his grandparents, Micki and Herb Warkentin, served in a variety of roles at Camp Koinonia from 1968-1971.

Following in their footsteps, Scott has served at camp in several ways: as a counselor, Nature Coordinator, Servant Leaders-in-Training (SLT) Director, and Ropes Instructor. Throughout the winter, Scott also works part-time at Camp Assiniboia serving in the kitchen, hosting, and leading activities.

As this year’s Inclusion Coordinator, Scott will work closely with caregivers and one-on-one workers to ensure that campers who need extra support have the best time possible at camp. Scott will also train other staff on how to support integration campers.

Scott is looking forward to spending time with integration campers throughout the summer. “They have lots to offer, lots of stories to tell, and lots of love to give,” he says. “They deserve to have the best time that they can have at camp.”

Consider volunteering at camp this summer for a couple of days or a full week, in the kitchen, as a health officer, or even as a camp counselor. Come out to our Pedal Dash Paddle Fundraiser on June 18, and consider giving to this important ministry of MCM at www.mennochurch.mb.ca/giving.
