Mennonite Church Manitoba Acknowledges Finding of Ministerial Sexual Misconduct

May 27th

Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC) has announced a finding of ministerial sexual misconduct against deceased MCEC minister Frank H. Epp (1929-1986). The founded allegation relates to the time period when Epp was an ordained MCEC Mennonite minister and a board member of Mennonite Central Committee Canada.

We as Mennonite Church Manitoba (MCM) acknowledge this finding, recognizing that Epp was a founding minister of one of our churches (Altona Mennonite) and a much-loved and respected leader among us. This news will be difficult for many to hear. We acknowledge in particular the pain this revelation brings to Epp’s family, many of whom live in Manitoba and worship among us in MCM. We especially acknowledge the pain this harm has caused to the victim and survivor of Epp’s actions, and to their family as well.

We echo the words of our siblings in MCEC: “We pray for healing for all people directly impacted by the misconduct, and healing for us as a Church. May God’s grace and compassionate love support and enfold all those affected. In the same spirit, we invite your prayers for everyone involved.”
