The 2007 Annual Delegate Sessions are behind us now... this page will slowly recap some of the goings on, and, just as importantly, link to some of the resources and results of our time together.
The theme for the gathering was "Living on the Edge". This was the third and final "chapter" in our "Rooted in the Centre: Living on the Edge" three year emphasis.
It was a struggle to embody "Living on the Edge" over the course of the two days. We do things in such structured ways. A few attempts to do things differently were not necessarily embraced by all. :) |

We have received a wide spectrum of response on the event. The good news is that people are talking about what took place... some of the less helpful bit is that many comments come without suggestions on how to improve. We are looking for more feedback. Annual Leadership Seminar - Friday Afternoon
Yes, this used to be called, "The Ministers and Deacons Conference". The current name reflects a broader sense of leadership.
In Session 1, Len Hjalmerson of Kelowna, BC shared much information on the shape of the time we are in and headed into... The content of this session is found to the right, entitled "Leadership Seminar 2007.pdf".
A prolific blogger (NextReformation) and writer in the "emerging church" conversation in Canada, Len humbly let us into some of his thinking. Dynamic, "in your face" orating was not Len's way, although his presentations did include many Powerpoint Slides, Movie Clips and Audio Clips. All of which can be enjoyed on the DVD.
In Session 2, Len moderated a discussion between all those assembled and a panel of Winnipeg church leaders who are involved in ministries that are engaging the new reality we find ourselves in. The discussion was lively and interesting... although some attendees found it less relevant to their life in more traditional structures. Again, it is all captured on the available DVD.

2007 Annual Delegate Sessions - Friday Evening
Worship was again the vehicle for the Friday Evening. Celebrating God's goodness was the focus. Len shared a recap of his afternoon presentation. Other elements included video presentations of the Ministry Director Reports, the annual "Celebration of Church Life" video (a video based scrolling of all the Births/Adoptions, Deaths and Baptisms in MCM in the past year set to images and music. It can be quite moving to see all those names...), diverse music, and closing communion.
We didn't live too far on the edge during this time, unless you count how far the edge of the stage was from the nearest worshippers. The bulk of those attending sat behind the half way mark in the massive Bethel Sanctuary. For some, distance and space conspired to make the time feel a bit distant... Others were able to enter in more deeply. A few asked why we try "creative" things when we know that those attending might not appreciate the efforts... (they were commenting on the predominant demographic that was gathered...)
It's all part of being an ever more diverse body in these times I guess... as per usual, we (in the MCM office) are very open to suggestions...
